Building Champions: Jeremiah “The Proof” Hinton’s Free Youth Boxing Program for Self-Defense on Chicago’s South Side.

 

For years, I’ve been proud to work with young people, guiding them through the sport of boxing while helping them develop skills that go far beyond the ring. This fall, I’m excited to continue that mission by offering a free youth boxing program on Chicago’s South Side, focused on self-defense and personal empowerment.

Why Boxing? Why Now?

Boxing is more than just a sport. It’s a tool for self-development, teaching discipline, focus, and resilience—skills that help young people navigate their daily lives with confidence. In a world where personal safety is paramount, this program is designed to equip our youth with the skills they need to defend themselves, both physically and mentally. I’ve seen firsthand how boxing can transform a young person’s life. It provides structure, instills discipline, and helps build self-worth. In our current climate, the ability to defend oneself is critical, and this program is about more than just learning how to throw punches. It’s about learning how to stand tall, face challenges, and carry that strength with you wherever you go.

My Commitment to the Community

I’m Jeremiah “The Proof” Hinton, and for years, I’ve been dedicated to training the youth in our community. I’ve seen young men and women come into the gym unsure of themselves, only to leave with a newfound confidence, pride, and sense of purpose. It’s my mission to provide a safe space where young people can come to learn, grow, and thrive. This fall, our focus is on self-defense. We’re not just training fighters; we’re building champions who are equipped with the skills to protect themselves and handle the challenges life throws at them. This program is a reflection of my commitment to the South Side of Chicago, and I’m honored to continue this journey with the next generation of champions.

What the Program Offers

This fall, our program will be entirely free, open to boys and girls of all skill levels, from beginners to more advanced boxers. Our training sessions will include:

Boxing Fundamentals: Participants will learn proper stance, footwork, punching techniques, and defensive maneuvers.

Self-Defense Training: Practical techniques for real-world situations will be taught alongside traditional boxing drills.

Conditioning and Fitness: Strength, agility, and endurance are key, so we’ll focus on conditioning to keep our youth in peak shape. –

Mental Toughness: Boxing is as much mental as it is physical. We’ll teach focus, perseverance, and how to stay calm under pressure.

Community and Camaraderie:

Our gym is a family. We emphasize respect, teamwork, and support for one another.

A Call to Action

I’m inviting all parents, guardians, and community leaders to encourage their youth to take part in this program. It’s a unique opportunity for young people to learn valuable life skills in a supportive, positive environment. I believe that by investing in our youth, we can uplift our entire community.
